Apple’s 2015 Q2 revenue was $12 billion higher than Q2 2014. Its revenue from iPhones were $14 billion higher! iPad revenue was down $4 billion, which was almost cancelled out by increases in Mac and other revenue. Taking a look at revenue by region, China accounted for $7 billion of the $12 billion revenue increase. While growth in other regions was much more modest. The cascade charts below capture the revenue change by product and region and are based on data provided by Apple.
The cascade (or waterfall) charts provide a good way to show change in revenue between two time periods. You can show the impact of both positive (iPhone) and negative (iPad) factors. Cascade charts are often wider than tall and can be laid out two to a slide horizontally. I used an axis break in each chart to focus on revenue change by reducing the size of the total bars. I also used a grey color for most bars and a red highlight to draw the reader’s attention to the key bar in each chart. Here is the chart in SlideShare to download:
