Here's how I made the Marimekko chart:
- create a data table in Excel with row for each team
- add a PivotTable to Excel to show the team data by sport
- insert a Mekko Graphics chart in PowerPoint based on the selected Excel data above
- add the data row to the Mekko Graphics Data Editor using the count function
- sort the data putting the widest bars on the left and the biggest series on the bottom
- set the coloring mode to color by bars and custom color each bar
- show values and labels in each segment and format values to show them in $B
- hide the bar totals and grand total
- hide axis lines, and tick marks
- make chart border white and segment borders narrower
- set bar width to be based on the data row (count of teams in each bar)
- adjust internal chart margins
